In the first match of the day which had an early kick off (10.am), Owalla-Avuvu Community Secondary School, Ikeduru, engaged Owerri City Secondary School in a superlative encounter, filled with active display of raw talents.

On paper, Owerri City Secondary School were tipped to carry the day, banking on their historical records of successes and with support from their intimidating fan base, made up of their fellow students who trooped to the stadium en masse.

An early goal from their Ikeduru based counterparts changed the narratives, as their top striker, Onyeneke Franklin slotted a low pass beyond the reach of City”s goal keeper to register a goal just two (2) minutes into the game.

The match which was expected to be a tough encounter was not to be, as the Ahiazu team made a mincemeat of their Okpala rivals.

The first goal was recorded in the first ten minutes of the encounter through their gangling top 9, Iheanyichukwu Gideon, whose shot was too hot for the Okpala School’s goal tender.

Eight (8) minutes later, the sustained pressure from the Ahiazu School yielded another dividend as same Iheanyi Gideon nets a brace, after a goal mouth scramble, giving his team a 2-goal lead at the end of the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Okpala Secondary School rejigged their team as they made two technical substitutions to beef up their mid field. This did not yield the desired result as the boys from Mbaise continued to control the game.

In the 60th minute, Iheanyi Gideon completed a hat trick, as he scores yet again to stretch his team’s lead to three goals, after he took advantage of a loose ball to further compound the woes of their rivals.

A consolation goal came for the Okpala team in the 74th minute of the game, as they reduced the tally through a set piece. The free kick was a classy finish as it sailed past the startled St. Patricks School’s goalkeeper into the net.
